“Oh my god. I can’t even begin to tell you what Erica’s program has done for me. I feel so much more alive and engaged in everything.

Erica met me where I was without preconceived ideas of where I should be, or even where I should go.

She takes the time to listen and ask questions to draw out your deepest thoughts, and your journey is aligned with who you are.

That is the most impactful thing a coach can do for you.”

“When I began working with Erica, I was in the middle of a professional whirlwind with great opportunities on the horizon but no idea how to organize my financial life.

For 25 years I had worked as an artist from a scarcity model. When money finally came into my life I did not know how to relate to it on a personal and professional level. Erica helped me overcome the fear and guilt I felt about receiving recognition as an immigrant artist as well as my broken relationship with money.

Erica taught about budgets, taxes, bank accounts, retirement plans. Most importantly, I learned that money helps me balance a creative and healthy life. The confidence and self esteem I gained from my sessions with Erica are invaluable and I will carry them with me for life!”

“By working with Erica, I've defined what really matters to me between my need to relax and enjoy life and my need to create and participate in the art world.

This has helped me define what I want, what I am willing to do and what I am unwilling to do in order to be a functioning artist and maintain my sense of integrity and value.

Erica helped me dig deep into my own assumptions, thoughts, and feelings about myself, my work and art in general. That’s a hard thing to do and a very hard thing to do by yourself. It doesn’t occur to you where there’s a crack that can open something up.

I now feel grounded in my own vision and my own goals. I rely less on outside reactions to evaluate my work and my perspective.

I’d highly recommend working with Erica to anybody who’s doing soul searching and anybody who has questions about the place for art in their life. Erica is a person with great depth, honesty, and integrity.”

“My money journey has been very challenging. I knew that my feelings about money weren’t just about the money, it was also about other things. I needed the support and encouragement without the pressure in order to understand them.

This work deeply probes the stories and narratives that I've told myself about money. And through that probing, I've been able to open up to create new narratives and to not judge the old ones.

I've made so much progress. I'm now fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit as an artist. An organization is sponsoring me for free for one year. I had been wanting to do that for a long time but working with Erica, I've been able to take more steps towards my financial health.

In the container she creates as a coach, I felt safe enough to open up in order to examine the intense pressure and anxiety and negative associations I had with money. Erica’s approach is very gentle. And yet, it’s firm because she kept helping me to open, open, open, open, not by pushing me but by just asking me where I was and how I felt.”

“Erica presents an alternative view of creative work in which joy, and kindness to myself and others, are the way to creative success . . . rather than competition and the ‘just do it’ mentality.

She asks the hard questions, and the answers to them have a freeing effect.

I have gotten immeasurable good out of each of our coaching sessions. When we end each conversation, I am raring to go in the studio.

I’ve gone from struggling to get in ‘enough’ hours and do ‘good enough’ work, to looking forward to working and recognizing that everything I make has value. It’s opened up to me a way of being, creatively, that none of my art training, undergrad or grad school, taught me.

I still have frustrating days in the studio. It’s normal, right? What has changed is that I know I will work through it and feel the joy again. I’ve become more prolific than I ever would have expected six months ago.”

“I’m learning to drink from the well more regularly, tune into my body as a part of my daily rhythm, and to reorient my decisions away from needing to be needed is the name of the game moving forward. Our conversations about time and worth and value have helped me come to that place.

Through the process of working on my money, I’ve found that my spouse and I can work together. Before, I felt that I was doing most of the money work in our relationship. Our conversations are more about the big picture and less about the small stuff. We collaborated on spreadsheets, we’re working on our budgets in new ways.

For me to get to this place, I had to be vulnerable and open up. And by doing that I opened up to new possibilities.

I’ve appreciated taking the time to notice my habitual thinking and to consider the emotional significance of money. My level of relaxed is huge.”

“For the last 10 years or so, I have constantly been thinking that maybe I should become an engineer again instead of being a journalist, which I love doing.

I now have a bigger picture about what I can do.

I developed an idea for a podcast that up until now only had been a vague idea. I’ve had a number of these ideas sitting in my head without ever doing anything with them. I finally picked one of them and made something of it. I pitched the idea to a big media company and got positive feedback.

It’s something I didn’t do in the past because the unknowns were so great and I couldn’t sort out the next small step to do. But now, even though there are still a lot of unknowns, I did it anyway. I allowed myself to do it.

I’m more comfortable talking with others about what I do – infinitely more – than before. I started small by talking to my sister and friends. But the more important thing is I can talk to production companies about my ideas.

I'm kinder towards myself because I have been beating myself up for thinking I’m not where I should be. I’ve realized that good enough is okay. And I have been sleeping better. I have released the thought that I should become an engineer again.”

“I hit my money goals and took on projects that I really liked and were a good fit.

I found that I can rest and that my business doesn’t fall apart when I take a break. In order for me to create a sustainable business, it needs to include rest.

I created three times as much work in three months as I did the whole year before. I know I did that by resting more.

A year after working with Erica, I'm doing very well financially. I sold a couple originals early in January, then took on a logo that paid well, and now the mural also pays well enough and that it'll take me through to May, then in June I might be taking on another well-paying 2 month commission.

Every month last year I hit or exceeded the money goal that we made together! My new goal is at least doubled from last year, and it looks like I'll hit that at least a few months out of the year which is exciting. Overall, all this financial stuff is a lot less scary and I'm more relaxed on average, especially now that I've gotten to see evidence of growth over time via tracking expenses and income each month.

Working with Erica was like giving a gift to myself. You don’t have to do it all by yourself.”

“When I first started working with Erica, I was lacking clarity and a vision for my business. I had days of procrastination and not feeling motivated.

I broke through the financial ceiling I’d had for 3 years. Working with Erica helped me break through because of the confidence piece.

I trust my creative process, trust my voice, trust the direction I’m going in. I just trust the journey more.”

— Weatherly Stroh

“My resistance around money has turned into curiosity. There’s a softness when it comes to money. My doubts around money aren’t at the forefront of my identity anymore.

I'm no longer ashamed of asking for money for my art. Artists deserve money and there’s a straight line to collecting that money.”

— Neelam Patel

“I saw, so clearly, the power of regulating my own self. Sometimes I was very stressed when we started meetings. Erica helped guide me through exercises to bring me back into my body.

I was shocked and delighted to see the contrast of how clearly I could think after we took the time to recognize what I was feeling and understand what was going on in my body. The self-regulation piece is just a fundamental skill that is necessary to do well, otherwise I am just spinning around.

I learned how to break down where I want to go into small bits so I can feel successful along the way and not just when I meet the big end goal.

I learned to flip the scripts that we’re taught. There are so many things that come up when you're being creative and trying to go out into the world. And a lot of these scripts are inherited, and cultural, and they were freezing me, stopping me from moving forward.

Erica helped me realize it’s not just me. These old scripts bring up emotional disregulation and trauma and layers of things that I couldn't even name, but it was having a huge impact on my creativity and was actually at the source of why I was stuck. Erica helped give me tools to see through these scripts and how to navigate out of them.”

“I used to think that an art career had to look a certain way, and that I had strayed too far from the traditional path. I had been telling myself I couldn’t live the life as an artist I wanted. Erica helped me to see this was only true if I allowed it to be. I now know I can envision and create my own path.

One of my biggest challenges was a fear of failure. Working with Erica has helped me realize that our ‘failures’ are our own perception, and they help us think about what we want.

I started a business and gained clients immediately. I surpassed my money goals. I am implementing strategies to address negative thoughts and overcoming anxiety to believe in what I know I am capable of doing. This experience has been invaluable to gain clarity and know that achieving my goals is as simple as doing.

If you are considering working with an artist coach, you’ve already made the decision to shape your own life as an artist. It was a wonderful step towards taking charge of what I wanted, and I am so thankful to be on this journey with Erica.”

“The course really helped me see the different steps to achieve what I want to do.

When I had a baby, my whole business shifted. There are a lot of activities I cannot say yes to anymore in person.

Because of this course, I said no to different ‘opportunities.’ That was a big one for me. Before, I would say yes to everything. And now I calculate the cost of opportunity. It's uncomfortable to say no but also I feel empowered. From now on, if it’s not worth it, I’m saying no.

I really liked being in a group. You get to hear everybody’s story and know that you’re not alone. And, with their questions, you always learn something. When someone asked a question, I’d remember, ‘Oh, yes, I wanted to ask that, too.’ You don’t feel so alone.”

— Annick Duvivier

“I have really strong beliefs about systems of oppression that are in place for people of color, queer people and women. Although they're great ideas, they were getting in the way of advocating for myself.

I don’t feel like I’ve had to sacrifice my anti-capitalist values. Talking about money during the sessions made me recognize what was and wasn’t serving me and my communities.”

— Geoffrey Solomon

“I was struggling, I was feeling stuck, and didn't have a clear sense of how to move forward in my practice.

Now I don't feel like I have to do all the things. I don't have to try and win over all the people. I experienced the transformation from thinking, ‘I'm never going to get there’ to now knowing how to get there.

My grant and residency applications became more personalized and are more reflective of what's unique about me and my work. I have a residency award for next year. I made sales out of my studio for the first time. I was in a museum exhibition. I’ve grown my email list. I gave a talk at a museum. I'm a lot more comfortable talking about myself and my work. My work also shifted dramatically. That feels really exciting.

All the inner work was really important and essential at a critical time in my life. Erica’s guidance gave me the tools and the resources and the support that helped me get through some really difficult things. I now use those tools regularly. I'm a calmer person and less reactive. I feel more authentically myself.

I could not have done this alone. It was invaluable just knowing that I had someone rooting for me and genuinely concerned about my abilities and capacities for growth. And who believed in me and could see it before I did.

If someone’s thinking about joining, I’d say do not hesitate. Erica has invaluable insights and a breadth of knowledge and experience and the wisdom and insight to tailor sessions to each individual. I read the artist business books and how-to’s and all that and it's just so generic and rarely feels applicable or achievable or quite honestly, even fun.

I’ve brought back fun, pleasure, enjoyment. ”

“Through Erica’s guidance, I decided to start Little Lau Shop, a product line that honors and celebrates everyone’s inner child.

I pushed past my baggage with money and being financially stable. I was able to awaken an entrepreneurial spirit and create a business plan that has helped me create a sustainable art practice for the future.

I have a better understanding of planning for the long term, treating my work like a business, financial projections, marketing and honoring my work and what it offers to others.”
